2007/2/13 RCRG Season 3 is almost UNDERWAY!!!! Seaons starts February 24! It's going to be a hard year because I'm taking some time off but I'll be a full-time coach for the Throttle Rockets and definitely looking forward to it. But rest assured.....I'll be BACK!
2006/1/25 RCRG Needs Seattle's Help to go to the Dust Devil!RCRG Needs Seattle's help to go to the Dust Devil!
Yes, I hate asking for money and have bene dragging my feet a little bit on this. But here it is: WHAT: RCRG is hosting a Skate-A-Thon to raise money for the traveling team. WHEN: Sunday, February 12, 5-7PM (public skate with Rollergirls), 7-9:30PM (rollergirls only skating) Entry is FREE to sponsors, but $5 if you aren't a sponsor. WHERE: Bellevue Skate King, 2301 140th Ave NE, Bellevue WHO: Everyone! I think the doors will open early and you can actually come and skate around with the rollergirls before the actual skate-a-thon begins. While that happens, there will be things happening during the rollergirls skating. Our traveling team is participating in the FIRST ever inter-league tournament, The Dust Devil Invitational where we will compete against 20 other leagues from across the country in the best flat-track derby action you’ll see this side of the Missippi! The goal for the Skate-A-Thon is to raise $10,000 but obviously any amount helps and I’m asking for people who want to sponsor me, Darth Skater. I’m co-captain of our travel team, Captain of the Throttle Rockets and recently named MVP of the Throttle Rockets for the 2005 season. I was also runner-up for the RCRG league MVP, which was awarded to fellow travel teammate, Burnett Down. If you saw the December 5th issue of ESPN Magazine, Burnett Down along with the Throttle Rockets and other skaters were highlighted in a gorgeous photo spread! How To Sponsor: Simply contact me (via blog or DarthSkater at ratcityrollergirls dot com) and let me know if you are interested in sponsoring me with either a per lap donation, or a fixed amount. It’s that simple. Payment Options: Cash, Check (made out to Rat City Rollergirls), Credit Card, via PayPal (please see website for instructions) 2006/1/12 Life in the fast lane always passes me byCy, the one-eyed cat, is real but unfortunately the kitten only lasted a day. There is a so-called medical condition that would cause this poor malformed animal but regardless it's a haunting image. The kitten was born in Oregon on Dec. 28th. It's kinda creepy if you ask me, but also really fascinating at the same time.
Have you seen the Rollergirls series airing on A&E yet? I haven't and really don't have a desire to. Why? Well, as someone who plays and works really hard at roller derby, I'm here to tell you that it's really a second full-time job for most everyone involved. We all work so hard, so to have this show completely trivialize and dramatize (way out of proportion) just pisses me off.
I won't be supporting this, but would love any feedback if anyone out there has watched it! Specifically, I'm interested to know what impression it gives you about Roller derby and this new resurrgence. Do you think it comes across as it's just a fad? Or do you think it's just a dramatized piece around something real? My caveat is I've only been reading the stories and I also know how upset some of the woman (myself included) are in our Woman's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) governing body. One difference between the A&E Rollergirls and us are we are Flat Track and they are banked. There is only a VERY small number of banked tracks around but the huge resurgennce (40+ leagues) happening right now is flat.... and we want to stay that way.
Telemarketing got you down? It has me, I'm SO close to cutting my home phone service because those are the ONLY calls we get. It's to the point of ridiculous, really. The only reaaon why we have it in the first place is because that's who is our broadband provider.
Anyway, if you have my problem and are annoyed and tired of pesky telemarketers, you HAVE to check this out! It's pretty self-explanatory: http://www.xs4all.nl/~egbg/counterscript.html
Hope to see folks on Saturday - it's gonna be FUN - derby a-go-go fun! 2005/11/15 Sony woesSony just keeps digging a hole with this DRM fiasco. People are already speculating about what kind of DRM issues there will be in the PS3....OUCH! Timing couldn't be worse right now with the XBox on the verge of launching. Which by the way if you haven't been watching, it's already sold out ONLINE and in pre-order sales at stores. Hopefully they have enough coming out of the manufacturer so that I can get one when I have enough in my piggy bank. When DRM first came out on the scene, I could see the possible trainwreck but Sony has definitely won the prize. I don't think DRM is the answer they are looking for, especially because it creates more problems than its worth.
It hardly seems real that Thanksgiving is NEXT week, especially since it seems everywhere you go we have gone straight from Halloween to Christmas! What the hell is that all about!?! I suppose the good thing is that Thanksgiving continues to remain the least commercialized of all the holidays and thereby my favorite. I still haven't decided if I was going to crash on someone else's dinner or go it alone. I actually enjoy cooking Thanksgiving dinner so chances are I'll make a go of it. The only problem is our small kitchen but as long as people stay out of my way, I'm happy.
We just got the recently released game The Warriors for our Xbox. Not only is it based on the classic movie of the 70s but the game ROCKS. Not really a surprise though since it was done by Rockstar Studios, who also bring you the Grand Theft Auto series. If you haven't played them yet, they are definitely FUN. As for other games, I've been looking at the reviews of the upcoming XBox 360 games and I honestly can't wait..... not really even sure where to begin but I will for sure get Fable 2 and Halo 3 when they come out.
My brother-in-law and his girlfriend are visitng in a few weeks and I'm really excited. She's going to take some entrance tests for UW, which means they both may move out here. Wes is obviously super excited because he's been trying to get his brother out here for a while. We need to plan a very action packed fun time for them. 2005/11/2 Legalize it and ban movies!Looks like Denver is taking the leadership position on legalizing Marijuana in a law that just makes sense. I've always thought that alcohol was a more dangerous drug than pot. Have you EVER seen an enraged and voilent pothead? Although it would be a smart move for Washington, given that the liquour laws here suck I would hate to see what they would do to legalize pot. Can you imagine having to go in the special roped off pot area at bumbershoot? It would definitely make for a very interesting Hempfest though.
If it's not the recording industry making stupid moves, it's the movie industry. In a recent brilliant attack on "pirates," the MPAA has sued a 67-year old man for movies that his grandson downloaded. Poor grandpa's plea is naivity - which really should be a plea but it's just ridiculous. What's even more interesting is grandpa didn't settle out of court by handing over $4,000 so apparently they had to take it to court. Hopefully the court of public opinion can help this guy - so spread it around.
2005/10/20 Hey, all you chickens! That's right, Scott H. Biram is on the road again and heading to the Emerald City. November 12th at the Sunset Tavern that talented bluegrass man from Austin will light up the stage for all us chicknes in the audience.
If you like music, you'll like Scott. He's entertaining and vivacious. If you like Bluegrass, you'll LOVE Scott. If you like rockabiliy, you'll LOVE Scott. If you want to see something different, you'll love Scott.
And if you've never heard him before, come and you'll get the chickens reference. 2005/8/4 This time of year....I love this time of year in Seattle because it means the Blue Angels are in town and practicing. Where our building is located we have a fabulous front row view of this and it's really exciting.
They are in town for the annual Seafair festivities, which go on for a month or so - I actually never really know. However, I always know before the big speed baot races and Blue Angels demo.
Hope everyone is having a great day! |
